Service Spanner and Stop/start

Post by routemaster1 » Mon Feb 10, 2020 4:02 pm

This post refers to a C3, but as the C3 Aircross has so much in common I'm posting here in case anyone else has a similar issue.

We bought our C3 110bhp petrol new last year. It was registered in early March, but had been available for delivery several weeks later. A few weeks ago the service indicator (not the orange spanner) appeared and a countdown to service came up starting at 3000 miles. A week or so later the service spanner came up, and on starting the car was indicating that the service was overdue, and is now 400 miles. It is not over on mileage, interval 16,000 miles and current mileage below 14,000 miles. So I took it to book in for service, and the receptionist told me that the service spanner had come on as the 'clock' started either on building at the factory or at the initial dealer inspection, and there was nothing to worry about.

This so far is no concern to me. However, I have found that recently the stop/start isn't working. The indicator flashes but the engine doesn't stop. I was wondering if one of the parameters that prevents the sto/start working is the orange service spanner being illuminated. I will be making sure that when it is service just before the year is up that the issue is looked at by the agent.

The Stop/Start will be disabled if the exterior temperature is too low. I was travelling one day last week at 7am and the outside temperature was -3*C, and S/S was diabled. There was a momentary text display on the driver information display that it had been disabled due to the temperature being too low. If I hadn't been looking at the display when it happened I would have missed it. On the C5 Aircross the dash button for S/S had a red light on to show it was disabled.

I don't know if there's a similar system on the C3, but I would imagine there is. Certainly on my old C4 Cactus the S/S didn't operate in very cold conditions.

Conditions were not cold, at least 9 degrees. Not working today at 5 degrees either.

This was discussed some time ago;

Stop/start is dependent on reasonable journey length/time to recharge the battery - extreme heat or cold i.e. using aircon in summer or heated rear window/mirrors and slow warm up in winter all affect stop/start activation.

My C4 Cactus petrol has been fine with stop/start working ; C5 Aircross diesel intermittent depending on journey being undertaken.
