Looking for some advice / feedback on plug in c5 hybrid as I'm thinking of changing my c5 aircross looking at one on Saturday. Its a flair plus 5000 miles on a 70 plate.
C5 aircross 1.2 c series EAT8 grey with black wheels.

Personally I wouldn't bother with these Hybrids. For the measly electric range of circa 30 miles (and you'll be lucky to get that - more like 25 ish on a good day) it's really not worth all the hassle of these when they won't charge up. There have been issues with failing charging systems and these are expensive to diagnose as they need specialised equipment - the range never seems to get back to maximum.

I know of a few people with these and they are not exactly raving about them, but it depends on you and what you want.

If you do much more than 25-30miles per day then, as with all hybrids, the stated mpg is a total fabrication. Once you've used the electric, and petrol takes over, you are dragging around the weight of the hybrid batteries and electric motors with the same sized ICE that you already have, which is expensive in terms of MPG reduction. My brother in law had a Mitsubish Overlander for a company car (stated 189mpg plus) , and whenever the electric power was used up he returned less than 25mpg - and as most of his runs were out of town and relatively long-distance, it became a very expensive car for fuel. If you only do short, local trips go for it, otherwise don't bother.

I have posted on this kind of issue before. The figures quoted for PHEVs are a joke. The figures quoted should be based on use of the petrol engine only, and if this were done thinks would be far less opaque. How on earth do they manage to calculate 189 mpg.

Thanks all for your comments. Most of my daily use is local journeys, work and shopping trips around 30 miles total per day. There will be longer journeys which I would have to use engine and not battery. Will have to think hard about going hybrid.

I have had a C5 Aircross Hybrid since October. Yes maximum mileage on electric is only 32 in mild conditions but I average with school runs and weekend football about 800 miles a month on pure electric alone which is a huge saving in the current climate.

While I appreciate the advice fron 'You Switch' is not to move to a fixed tarrif, Octopus offer a tarriff for electric car owners so between 12am - 4am it would only cost 2p per mile to charge the car. This is cheaper than a variable.
