Well blow me down. I’ve now owned my used C3 Aircross auto for 7 months, with stop/start never working, until yesterday. During the 7 months, I’ve only done local mileage, except for two separate 100+ mile journeys. Yesterday, on my third 100+ Mile journey, after about 90 minutes into the journey, the stop/start operated. Just the once, and it hasn’t operated since.
We’ll blow me down again. On my 6th local journey today, longest being about 6 miles, the stop/start has started working. This was a slow journey, in traffic, temperature showing 28° C, air con blasting on low, full fan, and lo & behold, it started working every time I stopped. I even tried with and without air con and it still worked, maybe a dozen times during my journey home.
I just bought a 2020 c3 aircross. Stop start doesnt work. I've taken it into a citroen dealer - they say the battery needs to be over 80% amongst other things, so they're fully charging it, resting it 4 hours and then charging it again to see if it works after that.... we shall see. They think it's just been sat in storage for too long. Potential warranty replacement battery if it doesn't work. I'll update here when I find out more
For anyone interested, I took the car into a dealership and they said start/stop was fixed with a software update recall. Supposedly they tested it after the update and it works. I'm yet to experience it

Possible that the starter pinion is worn. These days starters are pre-engage, so the the drive pinion is engaged in the starter ring before the motor turns. If you have a damaged gear or starter ring then possible noise from that.
Took it to the garage and they changed starter motor, same issue keeps happening, even with the key now does exactly same.
i drove 300 miles journey and at the end of it, the car finally felt ready to do stop/start. TWICE. and then it gave up and hasn't done it again since. I figure this car [c3 aircross] just isnt set up for stop/start really
