Today I went for a spin. It wasn't just to go out was to visit a specialist shop.
I used Mycitroen app and when I arrived at my destination my phone beeped to tell me the trip had been download. I looked at the screen and saw the following
30.1 miles
43 mins
41.8 mph
48.7 mpg.
This is a C3 Aircross Flair Auto EAT6 bought new in Feb.
The return journey was by a slightly different route.
31.5 miles
50 mins
35.5 mph
43.7 mpg

Fun with capital F and a broad smile on my face.

1.2 litre 3 cylinder 130 bhp. The automatic is only available in petrol 130 in the C3 Aircross range.

That's pretty good. They must have changed the options as mine's a 110 petrol auto. Fairly happy with it but not enough to stop me going back to diesel next year (despite having a bad reputation thanks mainly to VW :? ). Maybe after that (5-6 years?) electric might be finally worth thinking about

I did have a C3 hatchback 2017 which was Auto with the 110 bhp petrol engine. I loved it but as my age advanced it was just a bit low on the roof line to get in and out due to back problems. I went to see about a taller car and test drive an automatic C3 Aircross again with the 110 bhp engine. To me it was plenty powerful enough and much easier to get in and out. So I ordered one. The 2020 spec only has the auto available in the 130 bhp version which comes with Sat Nav as standard. I am impressed by the performance and the economy of this version obviously the power to weight ratio is well matched.

My C3 saloon was new just over a year ago. It has the 100 bhp 6 speed diesel and is used for local short journeys and an occasional few hour drive.
The my Citroen app tells me that the total miles is 6372 with an average of 69.7 mpg.
It has got better as it gets miles on it, for example, On Monday I drove for 1 hour 51 minutes, covered 70.6 miles at 79.1 mpg.
Can't complain.

Just bear in mind that the computer generated mpg can be very optimistic, and should be taken with a big pinch of salt. My 100bhp Blue never achieved over 70mpg in all the time I had it, and I tend to drive economically. A previous diesel C3 used to tell be it had done mid 60s, in reality it was ~57mpg, measured fill to fill (although there can be inaccuracies by that method)

Just bear in mind that I am an engineer and not stupid. The figures are within a percent or two of what I measure when refuelling the car, but that can be discounted due to the expansion and contraction of the fuel. Fuel is sold by volume and burned by weight.

I fill in a spreadsheet each time I refuel. For no other reason than I enjoy it. It helps me to see if the car is still performing as it did.
I do find some claims on here and other sites to be quite amazing. But if I want those figures then I'd have to drive in my bedroom slippers and pussyfoot. To me my car is for fun and that's what I have one for. Otherwise I'd use a taxi or the bus and save all the cash I have to pay in insurance, road tax, fuel and servicing, but it's my choice, my life and my money.

Also bear in mind I have experience of the computer exaggerating mpg. I have kept spreadsheets on holiday where I have kept a record of the mpg from the computer and the actual fill to fill. I appreciate as a former scientist that neither of the methods is accurate. It is interesting that when you get two tanks giving the same computer reading, you being up to 5mpg different.

I had a Clio which used to record ~65mpg but the fill method only gave ~58mpg. With that car it was easy to figure the error as the computer consistently told me I had used 10 gallons of fuel, but it always took 11 gallons to fill.
