Vehicle is a 2021 C3 Aircross Shine Plus Automatic
Is it ok (or good/ bad practice) to use stop/start button whilst the gear lever is in the drive position?
Why the question?
When I stop the vehicle with the intention to park it:-
1.
a) Stop/start function will stop the engine
b) Putting the gearbox to park position restarts the engine
c) I then press the stop/start button to stop the engine
or to avoid this double restart I can
2.
. a) Stop/start function stops the engine
b) I then press the stop/start button (whilst gearbox is still in drive)
. c) Move gearbox lever to park position
Thanks,

For an automatic gearbox, the Stop and Start with starter function authorises the automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine when:
First case:
The Stop and Start with starter function requests the automatic restart of the internal combustion engine when:
First case:
First case:
- The brake pedal is pressed when the gear selector is in position "D"
- The speed of the vehicle is less than or equal to 3 km/h
- The neutral position is activated for 0,5 seconds
- The vehicle speed is equal to 0 km/h
The Stop and Start with starter function requests the automatic restart of the internal combustion engine when:
First case:
- The brake pedal is released
- The gear lever is in the "D" or "R" position
- The gear lever is in the "D", "R" or "M" position (Coming out of the neutral position).
Ok I've just tried this.
Pulled up and engine stopped via Stop/Start still in D. Brake pedal pressed (releasing will start engine), seat belt ON (undoing will start engine), door SHUT (opening will start engine. Then pressed engine Start/Stop button. Car shut down. Then moved the gear selector to P. I then applied hand brake and released foot brake.
I also checked by releasing the handbrake that the gearbox was locked by the park pin. It was. I exited the car and shut the door and locked. Then unlocked entered and started engine. System normal.
As you say using this prevents an extra start occurring. Whether it's worth the effort remains unknown.

I thank everyone for their responses.
Unfortunately I don't think that my question has been answered. Perhaps I did not describe it well.
The question is:-
Is it good/ bad practise or will it cause any long term damage if when the selection stick is in the drive position and the car has automatically stopped the engine, for me to then press the stop/ start button thus preventing the engine from re-starting when I move the stick to the park position.
