Steering wheel vibration

I have noticed that on my new C5 Aircross, when following a car on adaptive cruise at say, 60mph, and it slows down rapidly, my car slows accordingly but the steering wheel judders during that braking. Is this a fault or a feature to let the driver know of rapid deceleration? Duringnnormal rapid braking, the wheel does not shudder.
Any ideas?

Does it judder under gentle braking, or is it only under, effectively, emergency braking. If under the latter, it is probably the ABS system kicking in.
